I Like It Like That – A Musical, written by David Maldonado and Waddy Jaquez and directed by Jaquez, poignantly tells the story of life in the barrios of New York City in the 70s through the eyes of the Rodriguez family. There are dilemmas, bad decisions, consequences, and transformation. Whether it’s Juan giving up the street life and joining pop as a partner in the family’s record store, China, leading the “revolution” for change and justice in the barrios, the innocence of Paula turning sweet 16, or Carlos waiting to hear about getting into law school so he can “escape” the barrios, there’s no shortage of drama in the Rodriguez family.
