Breck Trek - Breckenridge Brewery Brings the Colorado Lifestyle to Los Angeles

Valentine’s week was a little more special for Los Angeles this year as Breckenridge Brewery brought their Breck Trek to town for three days of Colorado beer, art, music, food and fun!

Breckenridge Brewery is trekking across the United States, showcasing the Colorado beer lifestyle to a number of major cities. The week kicked off on Valentine's Day with the "Sticky Situation Art Show" that took place at Villains Tavern. The event showcased some amazing Colorado inspired art from nine artists. The three day Trek finishes off with a free concert from Colorado band Paper Bird on Thursday night at The Satellite. The absolute highlight of the Trek was the Brewmasters Dinner at Craft Hill in Pasadena.

Deviled avocado

From start to finish, this four course meal was paired to perfection allowing guests to go from one amazing bite of food to a flawlessly brewed beer and this just went back and forth all night long. The dinner set the bar high right from the start as guests were treated to an aperitif cocktail that was built using the Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout. The Oatmeal Stout was reduced to a syrup and it was the combined with bourbon, honey and sarsaparilla bitters and then topped off with a beer flavored cream. This is simply a wickedly flavorful cocktail.

The first course paired the Breckenridge Mango Mosaic with the Craft Hill deviled avocado. The deviled avocado is topped with ceviche and served with fried plantains allowing you to bring all of those flavors into one masterful crunch and the subtle mango that came through on the pale ale really brought out the Peruvian flavors in this dish. The second course featured the wonderful Bloomsdale spinach salad that had a wonderfully flavorful, yet light poppy seed dressing, farm fresh spinach as well as strawberry and orange. The citrus notes in this salad were complimented nicely by Ophelia, the Breckenridge pale wheat ale.

The third course was a battle of the taste buds as Breckenridge served up their Small 471 double IPA that comes in at 9.2% alcohol. You know you are drinking an IPA when you sip this beer, but it had the perfect foil in the Craft Hill bourbon pork belly. The pork belly was tender and rich and had a tasty sweet blackberry sauce to accompany it and the sweetness of the sauce and the hoppiness of the Small 471 cut the overpowering flavor of the beer and dish to a nice level. The meal was finished off with the rich and flavorful Breckenridge Vanilla Porter that was paired with a fresh brownie that was topped off with candied bacon and a caramel that was reduced from the porter. The brownie was what dessert is meant to be, rich, indulgent and it left you feeling complete and knowing that was the exclamation point on what was a flawless meal.

The Breck Trek is an amazing way to get introduced to this fabulous Colorado Brewery that is always creating new and wonderful flavors. As Breckenridge visits other cities, you can only hope that they find other restaurants that are as amazing as Craft Hill. Craft beer and craft food, we can only hope that these two combine for flavor collaboration in the near future.
