Herbs & Spices You Should Never Miss

Dill

This herb is a unique source of flavonoids i.e. antioxidants. It also neutralizes benzopyrene, a carcinogen that causes cancer to the lung. Dill is delicious in salads, with cucumber slices, on any white fish or higher fats such as salmon or trout, whether fresh or smoked.

Thyme

Like all the grasses, thyme enters the most revered one. You will see that it has been widely used in antiquity to relieve the respiratory tract and diseases such as bronchitis. It also contains high amounts of antioxidants. If you add it to the tomato sauce, for your pasta or lasagna, it will give your dishes a flavor, you they would find them taste almost ‘magical’.

Turmeric

As you have seen so far, most herbs have almost the same wonderful qualities and turmeric is not far behind. It has a potential health benefit such as inhibiting cancer and preventing the progression of Alzheimer's. You can incorporate it into your diet by adding ¼ tbsp. of turmeric in the cooking water of your Basmati rice, quinoa or pasta.

Cinnamon

To think that not until a long time ago, I did not like cinnamon. Today I am passionate about it and I love it. It is medically proven that cinnamon has unique properties for low sugar in diabetics and for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides. A delicious blend to control sugar and lose weight is to spread your toast with raw honey and cinnamon.

It is also delicious on breakfast oats, rice pudding, apples or roasted pears, and even on your hot chocolate or cappuccino. Only now science has begun to concentrate and pay more attention to nature and discover the enormous medicinal potential that has been hidden for millennia in the kitchen cupboards and the garden of your home.

Basil

It is also one of my favorite herbs. Basil has 53 different components that fight cancer. It is delicious on fresh pizza, fresh tomatoes, and pasta or in the form of tea.

You do not have to cook to incorporate herbs and spices into your daily life. Here I give you my favorite recipe to make ayurvedic spice tea, known for its antioxidant properties.

Ingredients

• 2 cups of water
• 1 ½ tsp. of ground coriander
• Fennel, to taste
• 3 tbsp. of ground cardamom
• 1/3 cup fresh minced ginger
• 1/2 tsp. black pepper in grain
• 1 cinnamon sprig
• 3 cloves
• 2 star anise
• 1 pinch allspice
• 3 cups of milk
• 3 tbsp. black tea

Method

Bring the water to a boil and add the coriander, fennel and cardamom. Stir and add the rest of the spices. Now reduce the temperature and let it cool and place it in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours or let it sit overnight.

Heat the milk, add the spices from the night before and allow it to reach to a gentle boil. Now add the black tea and stir frequently to avoid burning about 5 minutes. Strain and sweeten with stevia, honey or black sugar.
